A Seattle man caught with 25 roosters after reporting a run in with a burglar to police has been charging with animal fighting.
Diosdado Casio is alleged to have told police he breeds fighting cocks to sell to cockfighting fans around Seattle and abroad. Casio, 55, has been charged with animal fighting, a felony.
On Dec. 3, Casio called Seattle police to his home in South Seattle’s Rainier Valley to report a break-in.
Detectives called for animal control officers after finding dozens of birds in the home. They also found tools – a coping saw, scissors – used to put roosters in fighting condition.
Investigators with the Washington Gambling Commission and Seattle Animal Shelter interviewed Casio, who is alleged to have admitted to fighting roosters.
Casio, an animal control officer said, “admitted breeding, keeping and selling roosters to friends in the area who fight them.” The officer said Casio also told her he sells roosters to buyers in the Philippines.
Casio has not been arrested in the matter. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 21 at King County Superior Court in Seattle.
