STUART, Fla. (Source: AP) — Authorities in the state of Florida have
arrested a man they claim stole a BMW after he tried to buy it with a
food stamp debit card.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office tells media outlets in a statement
that the 36-year-old, one Nicholas Jackson, was arrested Friday and
subsequently charged with grand theft auto.
Deputies say that Jackson was turned away at the auto dealership in
Pompano Beach after he attempted to buy the $60,000 car using his EBT
card in conjunction with a credit card.
After being unsuccessful, deputies say the suspect returned the next
night and stole the car. But that’s not all. He also got away with keys
from 60 other vehicles.
Deputies say they later found Jackson in possession of the car and
the keys to the other vehicles after he ran out of gas. Apparently he
didn’t have money to fill the tank.
It isn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney, or if he is sane.
