EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) – A masked gunman climbed
through the drive-thru window of a McDonald’s restaurant in Edwardsville
early Friday morning and shot a worker in the leg.
The 31-year-old male employee was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, and the suspect fled without any money.
Edwardsville police say it happened around 3:45 a.m. when a tall,
thin, white male wearing dark clothes and a skeleton mask and gloves
entered the restaurant at 1704 Troy Road by climbing through the
drive-thru window.
He displayed a hand gun and demanded money from three employees who were preparing to open the restaurant.
The suspect fired what are believed to be three shots, one of which hit the male worker in the leg.
After an unsuccessful attempt to take money from a cash register, the suspect fled out the back door.
An Illinois State Police trooper and his canine partner responded and
tracked the suspect east from the restaurant, but lost the scent a few
blocks away.
Edwardsville police are asking anyone who has information regarding
the incident to contact their department at (618) 656-2131, or their
anonymous tip line at (618) 692-7552.
